Nitrous oxide mass flux

Definition (Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Inventory Research Platform. Definition approved 10 June 2013.)

The surface mass flux of Nitrous Oxide (N2O) expressed as mass of Nitrogen (N) only. The term "flux" implies per unit area, called "flux density" in physics. The surface called "surface" means the lower boundary of the atmosphere. A positive flux implies flux from soil into air, a negative flux implies flux from air into the soil.

Preferred Units: grams of nitrogen per hectare per day
