Title: Dorset Stour : first annual review : January 1998 - December 1998
Author: Environment Agency South West Region
Document Type: Monograph
Abstract:
This is the First Annual Review of the Dorset Stour LEAP. The Stour rises on the Creensand at St Peters Pump in Stourhead Gardens and flows 96 km to the sea at Christchurch; the fall over its entire course is approximately 230 m. The catchment lies predominantly within the county of Dorset, with smaller areas in Somerset and Wiltshire. It covers a land area of 1,300 km2 with a population of about 394,000. The Stour catchment covers parts of many local planning authorities. The upper reaches lie within Salisbury, South Somerset, West Dorset and North Dorset District Councils, and the lower reaches include East Dorset and Purbeck District Councils and Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch Borough Councils. The Environment Agency is committed to a programme of Local Environment Agency Plans (LEAP) in order to produce a local agenda of integrated action for environmental improvement. LEAPs help us to identify, assess and solve local environmental issues related to EA functions, taking into account the views of external organisations and the general public. This document is referred to the first annual review of Dorset Stour LEAP.
