This report describes a five year investigation into the effects of conifer harvesting and replanting on the upland aquatic environment. It establishes links between environmental measurement, scientific understanding and forest management, formulating methodologies for environmental impact assessment and proposing improved forest management practices. The findings of the study will influence the future development of the Forests and Water Guidelines and other forest management policy and guidance.
