Title: Sources : river catchments (issue 1)
Author: National Rivers Authority
Document Type: Monograph
Abstract:
This issue of Sources is designed primarily for teachers of Geography at Key Stages 3 and 4 of the National Curriculum. A Level students may also find it relevant to their studies. The first part of the book introduces the National Rivers Authority, the concept of the river catchment and the idea of planning improvements and setting targets for their achievement within a catchment. This is followed by guidance on how to research the factors that influence the river catchment. Using case studies of four contrasting river catchments, we highlight some of the real issues which have to be managed in order to protect the water environment. At the end of the book you will find simple outline maps, designed to be copied for overhead projection or classroom use, which relate to each of the four case studies. At intervals throughout this issue of Sources, viewpoint pages set out different perspectives on the water environment. The four case studies included in Sources have been chosen to illustrate issues which are common to many rivers.
