Abstract:
The overall objective of this project was, at sites in England with contrasting soil types and climatic regimes, to quantify through field measurements nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from arable land according to a range of manufactured fertiliser nitrogen application rates, and to calculate new emission factors (EFs) with improved statistical significance based on these new data. This project was part of a wider research programme with the aim of providing a framework to enable the derivation of an improved UK Greenhouse Gas Inventory and also the methodologies to enable investigation of potential mitigation options and other management changes by policy makers. A further aim was to begin to populate this framework with new 'improved' EFs.
