Title: Reed cutter used at the River Lab
Description: Much of the research conducted by the scientists at the River Laboratory took place on the River Frome in Dorset. This photograph shows mechanical reed cutting on the River Frome, the cut reeds were collected by another machine further downstream. Reed cutting usually happened twice a year, after which the river levels noticeably decreased. The railway line from Bournemouth to Weymouth can be seen in the background.
