Abstract:
The Agency has eight regions in England and Wales, with the Harbour of Rye falling within the Southern Region - comprising Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The Regional office is at Worthing. The Kent Area, with offices at Addington, under the control of the Area Manager, is responsible for all matters concerning management of the harbour. The Harbour of Rye comprises all the channels seaward of four tidal sluices; the Scots Float, Brede, Tillingham and the Union Sluice. The main River Rother runs to the sea via the Scots Float sluice with the Rivers Brede and Tillingham adjoining from the West through the Rock Channel some 3 kilometres from the sea. The harbour dries at low water with all craft taking the ground into soft mud. The river system is divided into a number of sectors for identification purposes. The Outer Channel (below the HM office), the Middle Channel (Harbour Office to the confluence of the Rock Channel and the River Rother), the Upper Channel (Fish Market to Scots Float Sluice), and the Rock Channel and Strand Quay approaches.
