Abstract:
This report is the second compilation of salmon and migratory trout catch statistics for England and Wales published by the National Rivers Authority (NRA). Before 1989, these statistics were published by the MAFF Directorate of Fisheries Research in their Data Report Series. The 1990 data have been presented in a broadly similar format to those of 1989. However, two further NRA regions, four in all, provided effort data for rod fisheries in 1990. Catch statistics vary in accuracy from year to year, and catches themselves fluctuate because of a wide variety of influencing factors. All available information regarding these factors should be considered to avoid undue significance being attributed to changes in catch which may occur in any one year. Those factors likely to have affected catches during 1990 have been used to provide the following review of the 1990 catch data in relation to those of recent years (1985-89).
