Title: Colliery closures in the Midlands : a review of the potential impact of colliery closures on the water environment in the Midlands
Author: National Rivers Authority Severn-Trent Region
Document Type: Monograph
Abstract:
This document presents an overview of the potential impact of the recent colliery closure programme on the water environment in the Midlands. Concerns that there will be imminent and severe pollution of our rivers, fuelled by publicity on the issue in other parts of the country, are not well founded. However, studies by the NRA have identified potential problems for the future. This report only addresses environmental issues arising from deep mines and does not deal with open cast mining.
