Abstract:
This study aims to assess the use of utility of remotely sensed imagery in assessing any medium and long term impacts on the gross landscape as a result of the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak of 2001. The key area of interest is the Lake District due to its high conservation value. Specifically, it aims to determine the remotely sensed data that are most suitable for a baseline and future monitoring, as well as the availability of these data. It is part of a proposed wider study to investigate the establishment of a long term remote sensing monitoring strategy which will be developed in consultation with other parties such as DEFRA and English Nature.
