Freshwater Biological Association

Under the Researcher Links scheme offered within the Newton Fund, the British Council and Akademi Sains Malaysia will be holding a 5-day workshop on the above theme in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia commencing on 31 July 2017. Early-mid career researchers (within 10 years of PhD) from the UK and Malysia are invited to apply to attend the workshop. More details can be found here. After a 22-year absence the critically endangered stonefly Isogenus nubecula has been rediscovered in the River Dee in North Wales by John Davy-Bowker of the Freshwater Biological Association. Part of an ancient group of insects that have changed little since the Permian period 250 million years ago, stoneflies are typically found in cool, well oxygenated waters and are particularly susceptible to pollution.
