The FBA houses one of the world's finest collections of information on freshwater science. Its breadth, completeness, activities and historical importance make it unique as an international resource. The Collections are integral to the vision of the FBA. They are international, including material from Eastern and Western Europe, Africa and America, China and Japan.

The FBA collects items in all formats, physical objects such as samples and books as well as digital items, for example datasets and e-publications. The Collections comprise the FBA Library, the Archives and Collections and the Fritsch Collection.
