TrichocystDefinition Usually present in groups on a cell's surface. A fine filament-ejecting body with the unused material stored as a coil. Trichocysts are usually ejected as an entangling reaction to a predatory attack on the cell. Although commonly used in the cell's defence, trichocysts can also be used in certain dinoflagellates to entrap the cell's prey. Found in certain dinoflagellates and ciliates.
