Hydrologically isolated plots

Definition

Experimental field plot separated from surrounding soil water through the installation of e.g. plastic barriers, gravel filled ditches, & interceptor drains. Required to enable the measurement of nutrient losses (e.g. nitrate) via water from clay soils and to quantify the area where drainage water is collected from and to ensure that there is no dilution or contamination by water moving laterally.
