Title: Dorset Stour: first annual review : January 1998 - December 1998
Author: Environment Agency South West Region
Document Type: Monograph
Abstract:
This Annual Review summarises the progress made in achieving targets to improve the local environment in Dorset Stour area in the first year since publication of the Action Plan in January 1998. Many parties have made positive progress pursuing the actions that were planned for the year, either as individual organisations or in collaborative projects. The Stour rises on the Creensand at St Peters Pump in Stourhead Cardens and flows 96 km to the sea at Christchurch; the fall over its entire course is approximately 230 m. The catchment lies predominantly within the county of Dorset, with smaller areas in Somerset and Wiltshire. It covers a land area of 1,300 km2 with a population of about 394,000. The Stour catchment covers parts of many local planning authorities. The upper reaches lie within Salisbury, South Somerset, West Dorset and North Dorset District Councils, and the lower reaches include East Dorset and Purbeck District Councils and Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch Borough Councils.
