Title: An assessment of a numerical representation of biological water quality
Author: National Rivers Authority Anglian Region
Document Type: Monograph
Abstract:
It is important to comprehend that the accuracy with which the water quality of a site is
determined can be enhanced considerably by regarding biological data. However, reporting and analysing biological water quality data can prove difficult in terms of assessing any significant change over time by use of statistical interpretation of results.
This investigation attempts to find an efficient and informative method of deciphering and
evaluating the biological data in such a way as to allow for statistical analysis, versatility in representation, and sensitivity in interpretation. The biological data refers to B M W P (Biological Monitoring Working Party) score, number of Taxa, and Average Score Per Taxa (ASPT). Data from 22 sites on the River Nene have been used in this report, and the data from 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, and Spring 1993, will be used for analysis.
