Abstract:
The Seyem-Thame Transfer Project is designed to abstract peak-flow water from the lower catchment of the River Severn and transport it via a pipeline to the upper reaches of the River Thames thus providing extra water resources for the Thames region as required. As a part of the overall assessment of the feasibility of this scheme the potential capacity for changes in chemical composition to occur during transfer and mixing of these waters was investigated using both theoretical calculations on analytical data and also using laboratory experiments. The eventual objective of this work is to advise the National Rivers Authority on the methods of handling and storage to ensure that the two water samples are chemically compatible.
