This report presents the data from the Environment Agency's monitoring programmes, on the accumulation and disposal of radioactive wastes, and comments on their radiological significance. It includes assessments of radiation exposure of members of the public for compliance with the annual dose limit recommended by the International Commission on Radiological Protection. Concentrations of radioactivity in water are also assessed against screening values given in the World Health Organisation guidelines on drinking water quality. This report for 1998 is one of an annual series published by the Agency. It is being distributed to local authorities as part of the arrangements under the Radioactive Substances Act 1993 for access to environmental information.
